“More than half of tonight’s concert programme consisted of love songs - (...) that is probably true for all music that’s ever existed.”
This remark is obviously true and made us think.
While it’s hard to say whether more than half of all music is about love, one thing is certain: romance has always been one of music’s favorite themes. Every era, culture, and genre has its own love songs—not only confessions of love, but also heartbreak, longing, reconciliation, weddings, and those ordinary yet special moments shared between two people.
So how better to celebrate lovers—both couples and lovers of choral music—than by sharing a song?
Today we bring you a timeless classic: “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day”, composed by Nils Lindberg to William Shakespeare’s famous poem, celebrating the beauty of the beloved. This recording features the Caldera Women’s Choir from Norway, performed at last year’s Per Musicam Ad Astra – International Copernicus Choir Festival and Competition (PMAA).
(And just saying… The PMAA festival returns next September. If you’re looking to surprise your beloved choir with a choral trip, consider this your invitation ;) )
Happy Valentine’s Day to all!
