Eaton, RES has played a leading role in Edm...  moreRES is dedicated to the enjoyment, study and performance of great choral music, to an international standard of excellence, and to fostering the appreciation of this music. Founded in 1951 by the late Richard S. Eaton, RES has played a leading role in Edmonton’s cultural community for more than six decades. In addition to presenting its own concerts, the choir is a regular guest of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and collaborates frequently with other Edmonton ensembles, including the Alberta Baroque Ensemble in this performance. It has also collaborated with other Canadian choirs in the past, including the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus, the Vancouver Bach Choir and the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir. This past summer RES embarked on a two week tour of Germany, highlighted by performances at the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, where Bach was Kapellmeister for much of his career.  less

The 40-80 member A Cappella Choir offers freshman and sophomore singers the opportunity to perform works for larger choirs and to FIne-tune ...  moreFounded in 1962, the A Cappella Choir continues the tradition of choral excellence built by Dr. Edgar J. Thompson. The 40-80 member A Cappella Choir offers freshman and sophomore singers the opportunity to perform works for larger choirs and to FIne-tune the art of choral singing through exposure to music from the Renaissance through the 21st century. In daily rehearsals, choir members hone musicianship skills such as rhythm, sight-reading and the understanding of complex scores. They develop an understanding of the intricacies of vocal production, including pitch and how to blend individual voices together into a unified, beautiful sound. Finally, members learn how to sing in an ensemble and to successfully meld as a team. The choir frequently performs with other School of Music ensembles, including the Utah Philharmonia orchestra, the Wind Ensemble, the Chamber Choir and Women’s Chorus.
