Their stylish performances, featuring early Medieval plainchant right through to commissions of West Australian composers, have been delighting audiences and critics alike since 1995. The Consort prides itself on unearthing lesser-known early music (such as music of De Brossard, Certon, and Clereau), showcasing larger-scale choral masterpieces (Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers, various Bach Cantatas), and presenting High-quality interpretations of well-known classics (Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Durufle's Requiem, Britten's Hymn to St. Cecilia, Allegri's Miserere and Tavener's Song for Athene). Many singers from The Giovanni Consort have gone on to national and international careers. Rachelle Durkin, Taryn Fiebig, Iain Grandage, Andrew Moran, Stuart Haycock, Luke Gabbedy, Amber Lister, and recently Katja Webb have all gone on to grace the stages of opera houses and concert venues a...    less

Being part of the Choir requires two very important elements - dedication and commitment - and it is evident that, over the years, these have remained at the core of the Choir, demonstrating the loyalty of the Choir members not only to each other but to keeping the talent of choral singing alive and well! Excellent performances just don't happen and a lot of hard work and effort is put in at every rehearsal, however, the camaraderie, enjoyed by everyone, is also a very special part of being a Choir Member. In 2005 the local Council of the borough of North Down conferred the status of Borough Ambassador on Bangor Ladies Choir. This is the first conferment ever to an external Organisation outside of the Council Membership and the Choir were privileged and proud to accept this unique position. As Ambassadors the Choir represent the Borough of North Down on all of their travels, and, whether it be Province wide or worldwide, they carry out their duties with ...    less
