It does not meet on a regular basis, but comes together for short, intensive work periods, culminating in performances, or “Projects.” The majority of its musicians are recruited from the metropolitan Washington, DC and Baltimore areas, but some come from as far away as New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. We offer high-quality performances of significant choral, and choral-orchestral music, concentrating especially, but not exclusively, on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. We supplement our gifts to the community with unique experiences, such as our “Conversation Concerts.” We also offer advanced training opportunities in our specialized choral and choral-orchestral repertoire for young Conductors and singers, through our workshops and performances. less

ABOUT The MUSIC:
This arrangement is split into four ideas all linked together generationally. The First verse is meant to symbolize a departed parent comforting their grown child from the great beyond. To be more specific, the parent is singing this lullaby to their child in a dream. I felt the Latin word “Lux” (Light) was an appropriate fit for the imagery of sunlight and heavenly light.
The second verse represents the grown child waking up from the dream (First verse). This verse is meant to be bittersweet rather than strictly sad or angry. While there is grieving, the melody imparts comfort through nostalgia and memories. When the second verse gloriously blooms into the third, this represents everlasting love shining through even the darkest of times. Although gone, one will live in the heart and memory of another forever.
Finally, the reiteration of the First verse represents the grown child singing the same lullaby to their own baby, impartin... less

With the growing hate and division in our world, love must prevail. Too often today, it can feel easier to unfriend, unfollow, or simply part ways with others when they seem unworthy of our effort. Yet to truly understand and love one another requires fierce determination. It demands listening with openness rather than tuning out in order to respond defensively. It asks us to compromise—even when that means agreeing to disagree. Ultimately, all of this is only possible if we choose to live with the will to love.
Musically, I sought to capture both determination and collective unity through texture and rhythmic drive. The use of canonic writing on the text “I sing” symbolizes individual voices rising together toward a shared purpose. Likewise, the primary rhythmic motive in the secondo piano part reflects the persistence and passion of the human heart—the unyielding fire that propels us forward through hardship.
