London contemporary a cappella choir Kitsch in Sync turned 10 years old on 11th January 2011. In October 2011 we celebrated this with a special medley of songs from the last decade. This was its first public performance.

We started as as a group of former students of Helenes at The Stockholms Musikgymnasium but is now a completely mixed group with many different backgrounds. We rehearse once a week. We rehearse once a week. Our repertoire is mainly classical a cappella but we have participated in arena concerts with Andrea Bocelli, Chess in concert, I Love Musicals, Zelda, Morricone and others. In 2016 we won the Cork Int Choral competition.

Initially formed as part of a school-outreach program with the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble (QVE) in Newfoundland in 2009, Afterglow developed a love of 6-part a cappella music and began searching for new and challenging musical experiences. All members of QVE, the singers range in disciplines from Music to Engineering to the Arts. Afterglow performs frequently throughout St. John’s, including being featured guests on CBC Radio, local television, Festival 500, as well as community concerts and fundraisers. The group writes their own arrangements and began presenting full concerts last spring. Afterglow was one of 11 groups selected world-wide to partake in the Small Vocal Ensembles component of international biennial Festival 500 in July 2011. This will include masterclasses and individual coaching sessions with Bob Chilcott and Finnish group, Rajaton. As a result of their acceptance, the group was awarded a substantial Professional Project Grant from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council. This piece was written as a little “thank you” to el Coro de Cámara del Instituto French de Ramos Mejía, Buenos Aires, and their conductor, Marcelo Valva. The choir had recently given the first South American (and second overall) performance of my “Alleluia! O virga mediatrix”. Along the way I'd been chatting with a choir member about Pope Francis' Argentine heritage – a setting of text from an Argentine translation of the Bible seemed especially fitting.
