We have developed a reputation for excellent performance of interesting and challenging programmes for singers, players and audiences alike. Repertoire spans vocal works from the eleventh century to the present day including several Baroque present-day premières, with musicians drawn from recognised professional period ensembles.

The changing meters of “Border” fill the work with an uptempo, rhythmic energy that propels it forward. “Border” is a call for justice, empathy and compassion, a summons to our collective conscience. It has appeared in major venues in Austria, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Wales...  moreThe Drake Choir is Drake University’s select touring ensemble, performing regionally on an annual basis and internationally every four years, most recently in May 2012. It has appeared in major venues in Austria, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Wales, and Ireland. The ensemble regularly collaborates with the Des Moines Symphony and sang the Beethoven Ninth Symphony with that orchestra in September 2011. The Drake Choir has performed in Carnegie Hall and has been featured on the conference program of the American Choral Directors Association North Central Division. The ensemble consists of 64-70 singers who are first-year students through seniors and who represent every College of the University. Auditions for returning students take place in April and for new students during the weekend preceding the start of the fall semester. The ensemble rehearses Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 3:30-5:00 p.m. and is conducted by Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier, Director of Choral Studies and Professor of Condcuting.  less

We rehearse, in excellent facilities provided by Hutchesons' Grammar School, on Monday evenings, Aug - Nov and Jan - Mar; we give two concerts, in Nov and Mar, in an on-site auditorium, with 3-manual digital organ. The auditorium can accommodate 60 singers, up to 30 orchestral players and an audience of around 250 (300 max).
