Through its 50 years of existence, The group has metamorphosed from being a simple university Chorale into a musical force of national and world stature.
Aside from its undeniable musical prowess and versatility in performing classical, Filipino folk, pop, and Broadway genres—all with ease, The Concert Chorus is also recognized as The pioneer of choreographed song for a Choir. This innovation was started by The late Dean Reynaldo T. Paguio in 1969, and flourished under top choreographers like Edru Abraham, Gener Caringal, Tony Fabella, Edna Vida, Sonia Domingo, Steve Villaruz, Rene Hofileña, Ianne Damian, Paul Morales, Allan Samonte, and Ernest Hojilla, to name a few. Spera means hope in Latin, and it is a members’ shared vision on music. All members studied a sacred Choral music under Koji Oguchi, Choir director, when They were high School students. They were deeply touched by Oguchi’s music and established The Ensemble Choir SPERA. Making its debut in Concert in March 2014 at Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall, SPERA’s music was highly prized and well-reviewed in newspapers. It serves in Masses and services and performs in Concerts as an ecumenical Choir, composed of students from Kitasato University, International Christian University, Hitotsubashi University and Rikkyo University.

They perform regular Concerts in London and The South East, as well as touring each year, with recent trips including Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Greece.
In 2025 The Choir celebrated Their 10th Birthday year, and The 25th anniversary of The founding of NorThern Spirit Singers. Rehearsing monthly in central London, SouThern Spirit Singers aim to perform The very highest standards of Choral music in a relaxed and fun environment.
