Magnum nomen Domini is a Christmas Motet composed by Bartłomiej Pękiel (1633-1670).
Pękiel served the court in Warsaw from about 1633. After the Swedish invasion of Poland in 1655 he then moved to Wawel Cathedral Chapel in Kraków, where he was Kapellmeister.
29 of Pękiel's works survive, mostly in manuscript. The musicologist Bartłomiej Gembicki divides these into two stages; early baroque (Warsaw) and church music in the style of prima pratica (Kraków). He wrote the only Polish church oratorio Audite mortales, on the topic of The Last Judgement.
Magnum nomen Domini
Magnum nomen domini Emanuel,
quod annuntiatum est per Gabriel,
hodie apparuit, apparuit in Israel
per Mariam virginem in Bethlehem.
Eia, eia.
Virgo Deum genuit,
quod divina voluit clementia.
Gaudete, gaudete,
Christus natus hodie,
gaudete, gaudete,
Christus natus hodie.
Alleluia.

Des Abends, Morgens und Mittags
will ich klagen und heulen,
so wird er meine Stimme hören.
Er erlöset meine Seele von denen,
die an mich wollen, und schaffet mir Ruhe;
denn ihrer ist viel wider mich.
Gott wird hören und sie demütigen,
der allweg bleibet.
Sela Sela Sela.
In the evening, morning and midday
I shall lament and cry
So he will hear my voice
He releases my soul from those
who are against me
and gives me peace
for there are many of them against me
God will hear and will humble them
He who reigns forever.

The whole Mass setting contains Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei and also an organ voluntary based on the themes.
A version for 3 part mixed choir (Soprano, Alto and Men) and organ is also available at:
http://dwsolo.musicaneo.com/sheetmusic/sm-185192_mass_for_three_part_mixed_choir_and_organ.html
Because of its gently exotic modal flavours, the music was deemed to have a ring of "oriental promise" by one appreciative member of the congregation at the first performance.
This setting has been sung in Cathedrals in Manchester, Southwell and Dublin and the Agnus has also featured in services at Christ Church Didsbury.
The recording here is the Agnus Dei sung by the Voluntary Choir of Manchester Cathedral during their visit to Southwell Minster. less
