In May, the choir travelled to Italy to take part in the “Venezia in Musica” International Choral Competition. They won first prize in the secular music category, came runners up in the sacred music category, and received the “Outstanding Performance” prize for Bogorditsye Dyevo by Rachmaninov. They have been awarded “Choir of the Day” at all five BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year regional rounds they have entered, and in 2008 reached the adult category finals in the Royal Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool, alongside the six other best adult choirs in the country. As well as their regular program of concerts in Durham, the choir have performed as guests of Cleveland Philharmonic Choir, Guisborough Choral Society and Durham Coun...    less

Their stylish performances, featuring early Medieval plainchant right through to commissions of West Australian composers, have been delighting audiences and critics alike since 1995. The Consort prides itself on unearthing lesser-known early music (such as music of De Brossard, Certon, and Clereau), showcasing larger-scale choral masterpieces (Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers, various Bach Cantatas), and presenting high-quality interpretations of well-known classics (Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Durufle's Requiem, Britten's Hymn to St. Cecilia, Allegri's Miserere and Tavener's Song for Athene). Many singers from The Giovanni Consort have gone on to national and international careers. Rachelle Durkin, Taryn Fiebig, Iain Grandage, Andrew Moran, Stuart Haycock, Luke Gabbedy, Amber Lister, and recently Katja Webb have all gone on to grace the stages of opera houses and concert venues a...    less

Paralia is a touristic seaside village situated on the west coast of the Thermaic Gulf and in the shadow of Olympus. The Festival has two parts: competitive and non-competitive. However, the character and the main concept of both parts is joining music, vacation, friendship and fun. The idea of the Festival is to bring the music closer to the people and to present the music on the streets and the squares of Paralia, Olympic Beach and Katerini. All choir ensembles, regardless of the members’ gender and age can apply for participation at the Festival.  less
