W...  moreThameside Harmony has been in existence for over 30 years. A ladies' a capella four part harmony group we have our roots in barbershop but sing all sorts of music from old standards and barbershop classics to mega pop hits by groups like Abba and Queen. We perform sing outs for local groups in our area of Hampton in South West London, and take part in local fairs and festivals. Our weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays are a fun evening of singing, chatting and having fun together. We are always open to having new members. Experience is not required, nor is the ability to read music as we have 'teach tracks' with the songs in your part on (tenor, lead, baritone or bass) and access to these are given alongside sheet music. From time to time we run singing courses or open evenings for which there are no auditions. The choir will be accompanied by celebrated soloists, Ceferina Penny, Jorge Navarro Colorado and Ashley Riches, and The Purcell Orchestra. This will be the seventh KCS concert featuring Haydn’s beloved tour de force in their 76-year history. But it is notable as it will be the first KCS Creation in the Royal Borough since 1987. More recently in 2013 Andrew Griffiths, the KCS Musical Director, conducted KCS in an acclaimed version at Cadogan Hall. Another special feature is that, for the first time, KCS will sing the work accompanied by The Purcell Orchestra of period instruments, enhancing the colour of music already suffused with awe, delight and humour. For lovers of Haydn’s masterpiece, this is an unmissable event. Much of the music we sing is arranged in the barbershop style. Along with entertaining our local audience KCC competes in the Mid Atlantic District of the Barbershop Harmony Society and is a consistent champion in our Division. KCC also promotes quartet singing as well as a cappella singing among the youth in our region. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings 7pm and are always open for visitors so feel free to visit to find out more and to see if our group is right for you.  less

Solomons and Text by Thomas Clarke. This setting for Christmas represents the cold of a Northern winter (the cruel wind blows) although of course the actual events took place in rather warmer climes. It also reflects much of the liturgical and popular symbolism of the Christmas season: robins, holly etc and it brings our thoughts towards the season of Easter with the blood of Good Friday.

It came Highly Commended in Westminster School's Carol Competition in 2012, and was the first Highly Commended entry in The Times Carol Competition in 2013.
