Dainius DRUSKIS is the artistic director of the Choir since 2014 when he took the lead of Choir from professor Albinas Petrauskas, who guided the Choir since its first rehersal for 42 years. Each musical season of „LELIUMAI“ is designated to performances of Choir music to the listeners in cities and towns in Lithuania, extraordinary festivals and meetings with the Choirs abroad, unforgetable participation in Lithuanian Song festivals. During its history „LELIUMAI“ has been awarded the highest titles in national Choir competitions in Lithuania, has won the third prize at the international Choir competition in Ireland (Cork) in 1983. Choir performances are rich with pieces of various styles, special part of the repertoir is assigned to the contemporary Lithuanian music. Since its foundation, the Choir is in continuous improvement and has been involved in many workshops with Prof.Mustafa Apaydın which were organized twice a year. The Choir has a mixed membership including music teachers, musicians and amateur Choir singers. The Choir’s name is inspired by the famous story written by William Shakespeare and Guiseppe Verdi’s famous opera called Othello and the Othello Castle which is located in the city of Famagusta. The city where the Choir is based is known as “Othello’s City Famagusta” all around the world. The group was formed with some of Brisbane’s best and most experienced ensemble singers, most of whom sing regularly with other Choirs in and around the city and have extensive performing and touring experience both around Australia and internationally. The singers range across an assortment of careers, from educators to environmental engineers, and from students to musicians. They are drawn together because of their passion for singing and produce an energy in performance that immediately connects with their audience. In programming, Fusion specialises in early and new music – from Jean Mouton and Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla to Cyrillus Kreek, Arvo Pärt, and Henryk Mikolaj Górecki.
