Founded in 2009, mixed voices Bel Canto Choir Vilnius is officially confirmed as the best volunteer choir in Lithuania. The Choir unites more than 60 singers, who have extensive singing experience in various choirs in Lithuania, and whose desire is to have quality leisure time and enjoy one of life’s most pleasant activities – singing. Their goal is to sing different styles of music and work with various other groups, present high quality musical projects, as well as take part in competitions and festivals in Lithuania and abroad.
On December 1, 2013, Bel Canto Choir Vilnius rocked the country’s choral music scene and accomplished unthinkable. During the fourth year of its existence, the Choir won the Lithuania’s major National Choral Competition, thus becoming the best volunteer choir in the country. The Choir triumphed at the competition wining the first place (92.2 points) in the mixed choirs category. Lithuania’s National Choral Competition is being organized every four years by the Lithuanian Choral Union and Lithuanian Folk Culture Center, and is aimed to assess the artistic level of the choirs and to select the best ones in the country.
On July 2014, Bel Canto Choir Vilnius achieved another great success – it joined the club of the world’s best choirs. At the World Choir Games 2014, organized in the Latvian capital Riga, Bel Canto Choir Vilnius received 90.63 points and won the gold medal. By doing so, the 5-year-old Bel Canto Choir Vilnius, together with other choirs, anchored in the league of the world’s greatest choirs. Gold medals at the Choir Games are awarded to the choirs that receive between 80 and 100 points from the jury. This was Bel Canto Choir Vilnius’ first appearance at the World Choir Games – the choristers competed in the category of Contemporary Music within the Champions Competition.
Since its appearance on the Vilnius’ choral music scene, Bel Canto Choir Vilnius organized numerous major sold-out solo concerts; recorded three CDs and two DVDs; participated in numerous musical projects, festivals and competitions in Lithuania and abroad. The Choir was the first choir in Lithuania to present its official YouTube channel, and was the first Lithuanian amateur choir, which presented its music on iTunes and Amazon.
