Water Ruminations is a setting of six poems by The thirteenth-century poet Rumi, in English translations from The Persian by Coleman Barks, for double choir and organ. The poetry sings of literal and spiritual connections between water and sky, a drop of water and human life, flowing water and love, drinking water and its container, The giddiness of spring and rolling seas, and The ocean's gifts and singing. Its images, from 800 years ago, speak to us with both vivid immediacy and transcendence. Last July, over 100 BIG Sing members flash mobbed The Maldon Tesco Store and The YouTube video has had over 16,000 views, raising money for Cancer Research UK. As well as community events, The BIG Sing have hosted Their own sold out shows in Essex and have many more coming up this year! As The BIG Sing grows we are continuing to reach out to more people of all ages and backgrounds. We aim to unite people with uplifting music and have seen The choir members grow in confidence, experience The thrill of performing on stage, make new friends and belong to a new choir family. TogeTher with The jazz-saxophonist Stefan Kuchel and The Sirius Quartet, The young men's choir performs contemporary works. The Quartet members describe Themselves as artists of improvisation who break out of The conventional vocabulary of sound for a string quartet. Most pieces on this CD were written especially for The Sonux Ensemble, and thus composed to The singers' strengths. "We have worked on These pieces togeTher with The composers, and given Them Their first performances over The course of The last five years. This disc features only world premiere recordings and, literally, unheard of choral music, " The choir's director Hans-Joachim Lustig notes. The works recorded on this CD focus on The topics of light and love. The eponymous poem by Charles Anthony Silvestri that lends its title to The disc frames and connects The two topics.
