As a result of the love they had for Choir Music, they felt a need for a school Choir to ...  moreUviwe Senior Secondary School Choir, shortly know as Uviwe SSS Choir was founded in 1997 by a group of students, most of whom used to sing in various church Choirs. As a result of the love they had for Choir Music, they felt a need for a school Choir to be established. From the first year of its existence, Choir was trained and prepared for the schools’ eisteddfods by two fellow students. In 1998, they both matriculated. In the following year these students continued with the Choir training and were compensated for their services by the School Governing Body (SGB). In 2001 they were snatched by nearby schools that were willing to pay them better wages and the SGB had to look for other people who could assist with Choir training from the community. This continued until 2004, when the school employed a teacher who studied Music at university. In 2009 another teacher, who studied Music too, came and volunteered his services at the school. We think everyone can sing and complete beginners, shower singers and pros are all welcome. With no auditions and no requirements to read Music it’s all about the enjoyment of singing. We sing for 3 terms a year and each term ends with a fantastic end of term charity gig, it’s great to be able to give back to the local community whilst enjoying ourselves so much! We sing everything from Queen and Aretha Franklin to Hozier and Florence and the Machine, and have members ranging in age from 20-70, there is really something for everyone! This is our Choir's 10th year and we're always looking for new members, so if you fancy a sing please get in touch. We offer 1 free taster to each new member so you can try the Choir out before deciding to join. Their initial vision was to be a Turkish Choir which is capable of making world class polyphonic Music in Turkey and performing on international stages around the world. The Choir performed onstage for the first time on 12th August 2017, in the city of Batumi in Georgia. This concert was organized under the auspices of the Turkish consulate general in Batumi, in the concert hall of the Zakaria Paliashvili Music School. A selection of modern polyphonic songs from various cultures were performed and the performance received great praise from the audience. Then the Choir respectively appeared in front of audiences in Ankara, Kastamonu and Adana, followeed by their participation in Turkey Choirs Festival in June. Then in August, Anchorus participated in the competition episode of the “Orhid Choir Festival” which was held in the town of Orhid in Macedonia. Since forming in November of 2010, The Marion Consort have performed in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Arlington Heights. This past August, they had the privilege of performing at the Chicago Cultural Center as part of the Classical Music Mondays series. Their mission is to present performances for various audiences with Music by well known composers, while also exploring the works of lesser known composers.
