The choir welcomes new me... moreThe Gettin’ Higher Choir seeks to embrace and celebrate humanity’s highest aspirations through music, welcoming people of all ages and cultures. We are not associated with any particular religion or spiritual path.
The choir welcomes new members at the beginning of each season in September and February. There is no audition, and no vocal experience is required, just a desire to sing in harmony with others.
Our aim is to re-integrate singing into the daily routines of life. We sing for the pure joy and pleasure it gives us, in an atmosphere that is fun, relaxed, and accepting. Our repertoire consists of both traditional and new songs from many cultures. The majority are sung a cappella (unaccompanied) in 4-part harmony.
The choir is divided into three chapters, each practicing the same material on either Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Singers are welcome to choose the night that works best for them and to come to additional nights if they wish.
The choir had a transfer of leadership as of September of 2018 and is now co-directed Cathy Baker (cathy@gettinhigherchoir.ca) and Dick Jackson (dick@gettinhigherchoir.ca).
The GHC was founded in 1996 by Siobhan Robinsong (www.shivon.com) who, starting in 1998, co-directed it with Denis Donnelly (www.soundingsmusic.ca & www.wavelengthschoir.ca).
That latter partnership continues in their annual "Community Choir Leadership Trainings" in Victoria BC. The CCLT offers current and aspiring community choir leaders a template for how to create and lead their own choir based on the very successful Gettin' Higher Choir Model (www.communitychoirleadership.com). less
