It was the official choir of the Masaryk University in Brno between 1999 and 2003. Since then it has continued as a civic association. In 2003 Štěpán Policer took up the artistic leadership of Gaudeamus, since 2007 Dáša Karasová has been leading the choir.
The choir has been undoubtedly contributing to the advancement of Brno musical culture by giving concerts and appearing at benefit events annually. It has also been participating in choral festivals and competitions at home as well as abroad (Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia):
*12th International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music in Bratislava, Slovakia (2017) - Gold diplomas in categories Adult choirs ‒ mixed and Musica sacra, Grand Prix award, special prize for voice culture
* The International Choir Festival „Festival of Songs in Olomouc (2009) – Gold medals in categories 'Contemporary Czech choir music' and 'Sacred and clerical music'
* 14th International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music with Petr Eben Prize in Prague (2004) – Gold diploma and special awards of the jury for the best conductor´s performance and the best dramaturgy of the performance
* The International Choir Festival Jaro se otvírá in Ostrava (2004) – Gold diploma prize and a special jury award for the most impressive performance of the festival
* International Festival of Academic Choirs, Pardubice (2002) - Gold diploma prizes in the category of mixed choirs and the folklore category, special award of the jury for the outstanding performance of the conductor, the Award of the Rector of Pardubice University and the Award of the audience for the most appealing appearance at the festival, Grand Prix Award IFAS 2002
The repertoire of Gaudeamus includes a varied range of choral works composed by Czech and world composers from the Renaissance music up to the contemporary compositions. At present, Gaudeamus has 30 members, mainly students and graduates of Brno universities. Since its foundation it has recorded and released several CDs. It has been performing with many Czech and foreign choirs and orchestras (the Opera Chorus of the National Theatre Brno, Musica da Camera Brno, the Oreya choir Žitomir, the Brno Philharmonic, Brno Academic Orchestra, Czech Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Opera Diversa, European Johann Strauss Orchestra).
Daša Karasová
Daša Karasová studied piano at the Music Conservatory in Košice, Slovakia. During her studies she also acquired experience in choral conducting while working with several choirs. Between 2000 and 2003 she worked as a choirmaster at the Jonáš Záborský Theatre in Prešov. In 2006 Daša Karasová graduated from the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno where she had studied choral conducting with Josef Pančík. She has been the choirmaster of the Křenová Grammar School Choir and Pavel Křižkovský Grammar School Choir. Since 2004 she has been the assistant choirmaster and most recently the choirmaster of Gaudeamus. With this choir she achieved significant success (2 gold medals) at the International Choir Festival „Festival of Songs“ in Olomouc in 2009. She has also been the choirmaster of the Brno Academic Choir since 2010. She works as a répétiteur at the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre in Brno. less
