Will You Be a Good Singer? Do You Have What It Takes?

  • If you're a beginner singer and you've just joined a choir, this article is written for you.
Maybe you joined the choir because you wanted to test the waters. Maybe you're just too nervous to sing on your own. Or maybe you jsut enjoy singing with like minded people.

Will you be a good singer? Do you have what it takes?
A lot of people don’t. And it’s not because they’re not talented or are tone deaf.

It’s because they don’t put in the hard work and they don’t have the patience to soldier through the early stages of learning to sing.

Through my years of teaching singers from 5 to 79, the students who made the most progress were the ones who believed in themselves and worked hard to be the best singer they could be.

For some people, it means being a professional singer touring the world.

For many others, it means being able to freely express yourself and liking the sound that comes out of your mouth.

The voice is just like any other instrument.

If you learn to play it the right way and if you practice hard, you’ll be the best singer you can be.

I want to tell you about Olly.

He started lessons with me when he was 17. He played multiple instruments but couldn’t sing in tune.

We spent a majority of our lessons on ear training exercises. He worked really hard on his singing at home.

Fast forward 6 months later, he can now sing in tune consistently.

I still remember that glow on his face when it happened.

Beginning years are the hardest. Focus on building a solid foundation in vocal technique. Learn to control your voice so that you can sing with confidence. Hang in there and you’ll pull through.

    I believe in you.

    Regards,
    Benny Ng
