During the choir’s existence, it has taken part in many musical festivals, and proven its quality by winning many first prizes, and has been joined in concert by world renowned soloists and choirs from Britain and America.
Every year, the choir perform around twenty concerts throughout Cumbria, raising thousands of pounds for charitable organisations and other worthy causes. The services of the choir are provided entirely free of charge to the organisations they perform for.
Outside the county they have performed in such notable venues as The Royal Albert Hall, London; on three occasions, Cardiff Arms Park; twice, Sheffield Arena and in Edinburgh.
In June every year, the choir hosts it’s prestigious ‘Annual Concert’ in Whitehaven Civic Hall, for which they engage the services of guest soloists or choirs of national/international renown. These ‘sell-out’ concerts have become a highlight in the annual calendar of Cumbria’s cultural and music scene; it is the only concert throughout the year, from which the proceeds are for the choir’s own funds.
Another highlight of the choir year is their Christmas Celebration Concert, the proceeds from which are donated to a local charity, selected by the choir.
Since its inception, the choir have organised and hosted three massed male voice choir concerts in Whitehaven, incorporating choirs from Cumbria, Lancashire and the North East.
To mark its Silver Jubilee in 2002, the choir produced a compact disc entitled ‘25 Years of Song’ which has received national and international acclaim.
The choir are always happy to welcome new members, to enable the male voice choir sound to continue in Whitehaven for years to come.
The choir’s greatest delight is to let their enthusiasm and love of singing, well-over for the enjoyment of others. less
