  O tillflykt, säkra ro!
  Hur själen än har tröttnat,
  du ständigt dock, o hav,
  i härlighet är nytt.\
  
  Hur månget hjärta glömt
  vid denna djupa syn,
  hur mången själ har stillnat!
  
  O mänsklighetens ädle,
  tankens och sångens väldige,
  ha mättat sina själar;
  
  O heliga, av dina brus som sjunga
  i morgonbrus ur Tebes Pindaros,
  och mörkna med Psaltaren
  till väldigt aftonbrus!

  O refuge, safe and calm!
  How my soul is already tired,
  yet you are constant, o sea,
  in your glory anew.
  
  How many hearts have forgotten
  in the presence of your depths,
  how many souls have quieted!
  
  O humankind's most noble one,
  mightiest one of thought and song,
  who has filled our souls,
  
  O holy one, they sing of your swells
  from the morning waves of Pindar's Thebes,
  and grow darker through the Psalms
  to the mighty surges of evening!  less
