To have control over something matterless, we control it with the knowledge about it and thus gain power over it. The almost sinister thought “I'll tell you. You're young, but you're one of us, and I'm one of us, so I'll tell you.” gives the Toxic Psalms its tone. For in the background of the whole concert arch death utters and murderous plague intones. Through the music the project reflects Palestine, Syria, Pussy Riots, weapons, concentration camps, blood feuds, extinctions, contaminations of religions and creates a picture of human brutality. The living of a man is changed into a drama here and now: men killing for the glory of their psalms. Originally dedicated to performing 17th and 18th century operas, the membership voted to rename the group Richmond opera in 2016 to reflect a diversification into performing operas of other eras. Our next opera will be a fully staged performance of JF Lampe's burlesque 'The Dragon of Wantley', a hilarious pastiche of Handel's operas, sung in English with baroque orchestra, at the lovely Victorian Normansfield Theatre. It was such a riot back in the day that it eclipsed Handel's more serious works! Pleading for Words is a special architecture of music and the word that outwardly expresses contact between very different aesthetic criteria but glows with the same devout message: a personal spiritual testimony. The program concept is based on the attitude toward primary spirituality: from intimate thought to more outwardly expressed manifestations. Slovenian spiritual creativity can be summed up in threefold diversity: confessional, agnostic, and atheist. The main character – Fauvel – is an incarnation of sin, irrationality, unreliability, dominance, flattery. Fortuna Won’t Be Fauvel’s Match! mocks human egotism, hedonism, hypocrisy and excesses of the governing classes, of secular as well as church rule, a society contaminated by sin and corruption. The ruling class is despotic and greedy, forgetting about the natural equality of people.
