This version is from the Noteworthy Christmas CD, and is performed by the Chor Leoni Mens choir. The illustration is Peter Paul Rubens' "Adoration of the Magi". The Latin lyrics and English translation follow:
Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
Ex Maria virgine, gaudete!
Rejoice, rejoice! Christ is born
Of the Virgin Mary — rejoice!
Tempus adest gratiæ
Hoc quod optabamus,
Carmina lætitiæ
Devote reddamus.
The time of grace has come—
This that we have desired,
Verses of joy
Let us devoutly return.
Deus homo factus est
Natura mirante,
Mundus renovatus est
A Christo regnante.
God has become man,
To the wonderment of Nature,
The world has been renewed
By the reigning Christ.
Ezechielis porta
Clausa pertransitur,
Unde lux est orta
Salus invenitur.
The closed gate of Ezechiel
Is passed through,
Whence the light is born,
Salvation is found.
Ergo nostra contio
Psallat iam in lustro;
Benedicat Domino:

The Lea Singers' latest CD -- 'Jubilea' -- features almost exclusively English music (with the exception of the final item -- the 'Ave maris stella' from the Monteverdi Vespers); and the English music represented ranges from sacred and secular favourites -- Howells' 'Like as the hart' and Sullivan's 'The long day closes' -- to works commissioned from contemporary composers (Judith Bingham's 1997 work 'Gleams of a remoter world' and a setting of the Nunc Dimittis, written in 2010 by one of the choir's own basses, John Pickard). The CD is expertly conducted by the choir's musical director, James Sherlock and guest instrumentalists are 17-year old Edward Picton-Turbevill on the organ and award-winning young cellist James Barralet playing the solo part in Sir John Tavener's 'Svyati' for cello and choir. The vocal blend throughout is first-rate and the choral sound is refined. There are a number of vocal solos on offer in many of the pieces and all are performed with aplomb -- I parti... Les escargots qui vont a l'enterrement - Prevert
Song of the two snails who go to the funeral of a dead leaf. Poem by Jacques Prévert. Music composed for two unaccompanied altos (countertenors) and sung by David W Solomons (one of my first multitrack recordings back in the early 1980s).
