The text is adapted from the E.E. Cummings poem of the same name. Composer Gwyneth Walker writes: "This is a poem of grandeur and of praise. Therefore it might be expected that this musical setting would aim at vastness, grandeur and awakening." Walker accomplishes this through a variety of means. First, the piano introduction includes slowly unfolding piano arpeggios which focus on open intervals of octaves, fifths and fourths, exploiting the full range of the piano keyboard. The composer also takes the singers on a harmonic journey which begins in a low register in C minor, and then travels through a number of other key areas until it reaches the distant key of G-flat. At this point, the voices are drawn closely together into a tone cluster containing the pitches G-flat, A-flat and B-flat, only to open apart into the glorious C major chords which conclude the ...    less

While the majority of the singers are undergraduate music majors, membership is open to all students at the university through an audition process. The group has achieved an impressive reputation of excellence, having been chosen each of the last twenty years to perform at conventions or festivals around the country: the Pennsylvania Music Educators State Conference; the Eastern Division Music Educators National Conference; the Music Educators National Convention; the American Choral Directors Association Pennsylvania State Conference, and the ACDA Eastern Division Convention. The Choir is renowned on the international stage as well, representing the US at competitions and festivals around the world. Within the first year of its operation, InDONNAtion accoplished first Panhellenic executions and suggested a different and original approach to choral music, as its repertoire includes beyond the classics and unique compositions that combine movement with sound. Finally, it is worth mentioning that the Choir's name is a pun of the musical term Intonation (tonality of the sound) and the latin word Donna (woman).  less

The Choir was formed in 2002 under the dir...  moreThe Vision of Peace Youth Choir are a group of singers from the ages of 13-30 who use their voices to expres their belief in Toil and Peaceful Life and the Welfare of the World is not Worth the Life of one Child! The Choir was formed in 2002 under the directorship of Ellie Davidoff. Choir membership consists of youth from the 8th grade through to college age students. Now in their 13th season, this Choir has grown in membership as well as experience. There are still several original members, and every season they are joined by their younger siblings and new friends, who add strength and spirit to the group. The repertoire of the Vision of Peace Youth Choir consists of hymns and folk songs sung in the traditional Doukhobor acapella style that has been passed from generation to generation for over 200 years. The hymns and folk songs as well as the contemporary numbers in their program selection reflect their Doukobor beliefs as well as their steadfast wish for a peaceful existence on this earth.  less

It was Mr. Bonnie Fonseka, a distinguished Old Boy, who's vision soon came to be a Benedictine tradition, by forming a musical club. This prompted the birth of the first College Choir. The Choir acquired a reputation for top class singing and in addition often invited to perform at important national events such as to perform with other schools when princess Elizabeth visited Ceylon in 1952. Since Mr. Bonnie Fonseka’s retirement there were many dedicated young musicians who undertook the responsibility and uphill task of training the Choir. Some of them were Mr. Robert Joseph, Mr. Francis De Almeida, Mr. Nicholas Johnpulle, Rev Bro. Augustine and Mr. Ravein George. Mr. Ravein George revived the Choir in 1996 and guided them to reach the height of success as being cited as a Classical Choir. The Choir won the all island singing competition in the year 1999.
