Despite of the apparent differences, they are stron...  moreThe OV Singers is a community choir from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia (North Borneo) consist of members from different backgrounds who began their journey together as novice singing enthusiasts in 2015. Despite of the apparent differences, they are strong in musical passion and bonds, which is the essential spirit of Sabahan camaraderie. In 2015, they received further recognition as achievers of Level 5 Singing Ensemble with Distinction under the same international examination board. Recently, in June 2016, they completed their advanced Level 6 Singing Ensemble examination with an exceptional praise from the Senior Adjudicator of the Australian GUILD of Music Education. The OV Singers received their Grade 7 in Concert Certificate under the St. Cecilia School of Music International Examinations in December 2017. Due to an intensive and hard work, its members receive a full choral and scenic education, structured in the vocal individual technique and its different types of sound emission; on the development of corporal skills expression, and in the grupal practice of the choral exercise. The choir has built an international reputation and has made it a trademark to include newly written music in its programmes. This is thanks to the work of Knut Nystedt (b. 1915), organist, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after studying in the USA and started a choir at the music department of the University of Oslo. The choir continues to recruit members from the department of music, as well as from the Norwegian Academy of Music in more recent years. The American choral tradition in which Nystedt was trained emphasises the importance of new music – a practice Nystedt brought back with him to Oslo. Knut Nystedt’s music became a vital element of Schola Cantorum’s repertoire. Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl became conductor in 2002, and has further established the choir’s firm position in Norway’s musical life. She has continued Nystedt’s tradition of performing modern music. The choir was founded in 2005 by several of St. Therese’s young parishioners, and currently has 53 Singers from 27 different parishes in Archdiocese of Jakarta and 3 parishes in Archdiocese of Bogor. As the number of Singers grows, Cappella Victoria Jakarta evolves to focus on singing Sacred Polyphony music from the end of the 16th century, especially Roman Polyphony music and its various modern interpretations. Since 2006, Cappella Victoria Jakarta routinely sings Sacred Polyphony music in Eucharistic Mass in St. Therese of Lisieux Parish. The choir has also sung Sacred Polyphony music in several other Catholic churches in Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung and Semarang.
