Founded in 2005, VOH has been entertaining Abu Dhabi audiences ever since! We have members of all skill levels and are a multicultural group. We use professionally made voice tracks to help learn our parts with precision, thus allowing us to put aside our sheet music and really enjoy the magic of hearing all the harmonies merged into the ringing chords of the Barbershop style! It’s the blend of these unique vocal parts that creates the space for an exciting ensemble. Barbershop singing style is unaccompanied, and creates four-part a cappella harmony. Although barbershop-style music is usually built on simple melodies and is relatively easy to sing, the "a cappella style" and the ear training necessary for independent part singing make it one of the most challenging and rewarding accomplishments of a vocal ensemble. We Annually we perform two large concerts with professional soloists and orchestral musicians in Carlow, ‘Glory of Christmas’ in the National Concert Hall and annual ‘Christmas Crackers’ family concert in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre, Carlow. We have a remarkable repertoire of many choral works such as Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St. Mathews & St. John Passion, Verdi’s Requiem, Haydn’s The Creation & Seasons, Brahm’s Requiem & many more. In July 2011, they sang in Ottawa at the Unisong festival for Canada Day, and in July 2013 the group was featured at the presitigious and exciting international Festival 500 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Wherever the choir travels, we spread the joy of music-making and hope to bring communities together through song. Shumayela offers a focus on thorough and excellent music education, with singers learning about healthy vocal production, the body-voice connection, and vibrant performance presence as well as a strong emphasis on musical literacy, music theory, and sightsinging skills.
