"Songs for Braithwaite" was inspired by some of the poems of William Stanley Braithwaite. A two minute commentary (at 7:45 of the video) by the composer follows the performance of the two pieces. He found his identity as a national composer with his synthesis of Folk music, classical training and the experience gained as Musical Editor of the English Hymnal.
