The Choir's founder and artistic director is Maestro Zakar Keshishian. ...  moreHamazkayin's Armenian Youth Choir (AYC) was founded in order to keep the young generation's taste & interest in classical, folk and contemporary qualified music alive. The Choir's founder and artistic director is Maestro Zakar Keshishian. The Choir’s pianist is Mrs. Kamila Keshishian. The Choir has a multilingual playlist which extends from Armenian traditional folk songs to modern Armenian or non-Armenian songs. These songs are performed in different ways: - A capella - Accompanied by the piano - Accompanied by the Armenian folk traditional band - Accompanied by a modern contemporary band. Many Armenian musicians from Armenia enrich the Choir's repertoire with their unique and creative works. The Choir members are composed of university students and secondary classes students in Armenian High Schools, as well as young Armenians in the work force. Nonetheless, there is a group of Youth who have come together to form a Choir which has made a mark both at home and abroad. The Winneba Youth Choir, known to be the number one choral music group in the country was founded in May 1989, under the patronage of Mr. George Mensah-Essilfie and Mr. John Francis Arthur-Yamoah (Paa John). The Choir has progressed steadily to the extent that it is now recognized as the most outstanding Youth Choir of the nation. When Odwa Mvunge return to his birth community in 2012, after completing his music education studies at Nelson Mandela University, not much has changed. There still was no place in Zolani for the Youth to express themselves in cultural activities that was not offered at school nor in the community. After school the Youth would loiter around without direction. This lead to the formation of the Zolani Youth Choir. The basic idea and purpose of the Choir is to equip Youth of our community with basic music skills. The Choir consists of 25 scholars from different schools who are between the ages of 12 and 26 years. These scholars have no professional training or background in formal music, but have proven to have a passion and love for the art.
