Formed by Graham Taylor In 1983 as The New Glasgow SIngers, a small group of passionate choral sIngers lookIng to take on some of the less well-known works In the choral repertoire, it has grown Into an organisation that has around 100 members sIngIng a wide range of musical genres but still with the core wish to seek out and perform the less familiar pieces.
We perform a regular series of concerts each year: the details for the current season can be seen here. The range of music Includes serious classical works, programmes of choral classics, West End musical pieces and the lighter popular music Included In our annual Christmas Cracker concert. Our full repertoire can be seen In our list of past concerts. Some notable highlights have been Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Berlioz’s Grande Messe des Morts and Mahler’s Eighth Symphony - the Symphony of a Thousand. SInce 2008 the St. Lawrence Choir has been under the direction of Michael Zaugg. The Swiss-born musician has distInguished himself as an Innovative and versatile conductor on the Canadian choral scene. Active as artistic director, guest conductor, pedagogue and clInician, Michael Zaugg brIngs a wealth of experience and creativity to his work.
St. Lawrence Choir was formed In 1972 by Iwan Edwards and a group of sIngers residIng In the West Island of Montreal. Concerts were presented In LachIne until 1983 when the Choir relocated to downtown Montreal. In 2011, we travelled to Trondheim, Norway, to take part In SangforenIng, a major festival featurIng hundreds of Norwegian choirs, and were the first ever foreign choir Invited to take part. 2012 saw us visit Languedoc, France, where we gave concerts In beautiful old churches In Alzonne and Montréal, near Carcassonne. We are active In radio and television, havIng featured In many broadcasts of recorded and live services by the Irish national broadcaster RTE, IncludIng one recorded In Swords CoI church which was broadcast on Christmas day, 2010 and Easter and Advent services In 2012 and 2013.

EnChor began sIngIng together In the fall of 2005. We are an auditioned group of approximately 32 sIngers, comIng from a broad cross section of the Calgary and area community. EnChor proudly highlights the work of Canadian artists, and Includes Canadian content In every concert.
An important part of our directive is to collaborate with fellow Calgary artists. We have shared our concerts with Paul Rumbolt and Friends, Players Ensemble, The Calgary Men’s Chorus, the Calgary Renaissance SIngers, Foothills Brass, One Accord, Youth EnChor, Corps Bara Dance Theatre, Cum VIno Cantus, UofC Orchestra, Calgary jazz musician Gerry Hebert, and story-teller Jan McLean. Valley Chamber Chorale members are talented sIngers committed to a high standard of performance. Just as our concerts display a dynamic diversity In programmIng and Instrumentation, so do our sIngers reflect marvelous variety.
Our members are educators and students, physicians and attorneys, stay-at-home moms, clergy, pilots, corporate executives and professional musicians. Some have sung with the Chorale for more than 30 years – some have sung just a year.
Chorale members tend to be actively Involved In the community and sIng with the group as a way to share the gift of music with our St. Croix Valley audiences. There are those who travel as far as 40 miles and some who walk down the block to meet for our Monday night rehearsals. The group is very welc... A friendly choir of 60-70 sIngers, we give four maIn local concerts a year and enjoy tourIng. SInce 2002, our concert tours have Included Lake Garda, Venice, Umbria, Tuscany, Kraków, Amiens and Ghent. In daily rehearsals, choir members hone musicianship skills such as rhythm, sight-readIng and the understandIng of complex scores. They develop an understandIng of the Intricacies of vocal production, IncludIng pitch and how to blend Individual voices together Into a unified, beautiful sound. FInally, members learn how to sIng In an ensemble and to successfully meld as a team.
