In its 32 years of existence, UPSA has consistently brought honor and prestige to the country, winning various prizes and awards in competitions in ITALY, SPAIN, FRANCE, NETHERLANDS, CZECH REPUBLIC, BULGARIA, SLOVAKIA, BELGIUM, GERMANY, POLAND, WALES, HUNGARY and SWITZERLAND. It is one of the only four Filipino choirs to have qualified to join the 14th European Grand Prix for Choral Singing ‑ the world'S most coveted choral prize. UPSA was also the official entry of the Philippines to the UNESCO International Music Prize in 2005. In the Philippines, it was named the Best University Choir in 2012 and 2004 at the “Who’s Who in the Philippines” 19th and 27th Consumers’ Choice Awards, respectively. We rehearse at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. We aim to unite and represent our community through our joy of singing. The choir has over sixty Singers rehearsing each week and the main focus in rehearsals is preparation for performances. These performances can take the form of concerts and appearances in festivals and other events in the local community.

This well-known setting by Tomas Luis de Victoria (1548-1611) of Popule meus, the lengthy series of chants known as Improperia, or Reproaches, which occur at the liturgical cliMax of Good Friday, during the special service of the Adoration of the Cross, w...  moreThis well-known setting by Tomas Luis de Victoria (1548-1611) of Popule meus, the lengthy series of chants known as Improperia, or Reproaches, which occur at the liturgical cliMax of Good Friday, during the special service of the Adoration of the Cross, was recorded on Saturday 2nd April 2011 during St Peter's Singers' recital of sacred polyphony for Passiontide and Tenebrae in the beautiful surroundings and acoustic of St Aidan's Parish Church in Leeds. The Singers are directed by Dr Simon Lindley, Music Director since the choir's foundation in 1977. The plainchant verses are sung by soprano Sarah Kelly, and the solo quartet (positioned remotely from the main choir) comprises soprano Julie Kilburn, alto Lucy Appleyard, tenor Jonathan Morrish and bass Quentin Brown.
