It has evolved into an ensemble determined to reinvent itself continuously as it develops a sound that is artistically intelligent. In its 14-year history, Novo Concertante Manila has competed and won in several international choral competitions. Among which are the 2nd Choir Olympics in Busan, South Korea(2002), the 1st A Voyage of Songs International Chorale Competition in Genting Highlands, Malaysia (2003) and the 23rd Takarazuka International Chamber Choir Competition in Takarazuka, Japan (2007). In 2009, the choir won the 1st and 2nd Prizes at the 46th Internationaler Chorwettbewerb in Spittalan der Drau, Austria and the 1st Prize at the 55th Certamen International de Habaneras y Polifonia in Torrevieja, Spain. Since then we have recorded with everyone from CHER to Pink and have appeared in commercials, movies and television shows (including Modern Family, ‘I Think You Should Leave’, Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel, The Tonight Show, Jennifer Hudson, etc.). We sang on the #1 song of the year for 2012 (We Are Young by Fun) which has been seen on YouTube over 1 Billion times. Last year we were asked to sing with Eurovision runner up Eden Golan on her song ‘Older” dealing with a child’s view of war.  less

Since our inception, we strive to engage all our audience members, from the musically sophisticated to first-timers. We enjoy bringing our performance art to the Calgary community. We perform at two major concerts per year as well as various community performances. As a distinctive and dynamic women’s vocal ensemble, we collaborate with local artists to perform unique arrangements of familiar and eclectic repertoire. May God give you long life. Literally: years and epochs of happiness to you. They are sung at feasts or supras as they are called in Georgian, where participants wish one another health and a long life. This is an urban version. This type of song is sometimes labelled Kutaisian because the town of Kutaisi (in western Georgia) is considered the centre in western urban songs, which are based on European harmony. This concert was the culmination of a six-week project which creates a choir from scratch for one night only. Each winter and summer, Chris Rowbury gathers a random bunch of singers from in and around Ipswich. There are no auditions and all songs are taught and learnt by ear.
