Too often today, it can feel easier to unfriend, unfollow, or simply part ways with others when they seem unworthy of our effort. Yet to truly understand and love one another requires fierce determination. It demands listening with openness rather than tuning out in order to respond defensively. It asks us to compromise—even when that means agreeing to disagree. Ultimately, all of this is only possible if we choose to live with the will to love. musically, I sought to capture both determination and collective unity through texture and rhythmic drive. The use of canonic writing on the text “I sing” symbolizes individual voices rising together toward a shared purpose. Likewise, the primary rhythmic motive in the secondo piano part reflects the persistence and passion of the human heart—the unyielding fire that propels us forward through hardship. Performed by the Chamber Singers and Men's Auxiliary ensembles of the Girl Choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson, Accompanist: Gayle Giese. What sweeter music can we bring, Than a carol, for to sing The birth of this our heavenly King? Awake the voice! Awake the string! Dark and dull night, fly hence away, And give the honor to this day, That sees December turned to May. Why does the chilling Winter's morn Smile, like a field beset with corn? Or smell like a meadow Newly shorn, Thus, on the sudden? Come and see The cause, why things thus fragrant be: 'Tis He is born, whose quick'ning birth Gives life and luster, public mirth, To heaven, and the under-earth. We see Him come, and know Him ours, Who, with His sunshine, and His showers, Turns all the patient ground to flowers. The darling of t...    less
