Founded in 1977, the Choir has gained a well-deserved reputation for performing neglected and unfamiliar music as well as better known and popular pieces, both sacred and secular. New members are welcome and encouraged to attend three rehearsals before an informal voice appraisal.  

We have recently launched the John Hanson Community Choir. Open to all ages across the community of Andover and beyond. Come and join us and join in with the fun and love of singing together. Every Thursday evening 6-8 pm at John Hanson Community School - Andover

It has grown to a Higher level by achieving numerous titles within the past few years and also recognized as the best Tenor Bass voices from a School Choir around the country. (Title gained 2014 onwards). The Choir has performed in National and International level stages (2012 Rome) and hosting many choral events in negombo including the biggest carol service in Negombo since 2007.(Maris Carols). It is trained by Mr. Francis De Almeida (Choral Director) since 2004. This Choir has influences some youth Choirs including Speranza , etc.... And also the Past Pupils Choir (The Old Maris Choir). The Choir is still hosting many Choral Events in Negombo. The Choir consists of School boys (aged 13 -18) currently attending the College. Many Choirs have since copied and adapted our 'storm' sequence.

Our goal is share High quality choral literature between great singers and with the audiences of our community. We also aim to help other arts ensembles in the valley to build a stronger music community.  

Our small but talented Choir consists mainly of young people. All Choir members receive a first-rate musical education. There has been a long tradition of musical excellence at St Laurence’s. The original church, built in the 1880s, had a strong Choir ...  moreOur small but talented Choir consists mainly of young people. All Choir members receive a first-rate musical education. There has been a long tradition of musical excellence at St Laurence’s. The original church, built in the 1880s, had a strong Choir of men and boys who took part in the Festival of Britain services in 1951. When the new church was opened in 1968, the musical tradition continued. A new Walker organ was installed in the church, using some pipework from the old organ and Directors of Music have included David Sanger, Professor Roger Wibberley, Paul Dewhurst, Tom Fowkes, Marcus Wibberley, Iain Simcock and Andrew Ibbotson. The current Director of Music is Huw Morgan. Girls were first admitted to the Choir some ten years ago, but the Choir remains unique in this part of south-east London in that it continues to use only trebles (girls and boys) on the top line. The lower parts are provided by volunteer adults from the local community. Young people receive an excellent musical education, and ...    less
