The ...  moreThe Harrow Apollo Male Choir was formed in 1941 in a North London aircraft factory and today its 50 dedicated members continue the tradition of singing for enjoyment, for well-being, and to raise funds for charity. New members are always welcome! The Choir regularly performs at weddings, corporate events and massed male voice choir events, enthralling audiences up and down the country, having also performed in Jersey, Ireland, Belgium, Germany and the USA. Choristers hail from all over North London and have raised substantial funds for national and local charities including the Paul Strickland Scanner Appeal, The Stroke Association, the RAF Benevolent Fund and Bentley Priory Museum. In 2003, Matjaž Šček, the conductor of the group, was replaced by Andreja Martinjak, who performed regularly with the choir and took part in national and international choir competitions where the choir as well as the conductor were winning numerous prizes and awards. The greatest achievements of the choir include a gold plaque, awarded in the 20th Slovenian national choir competition, Naša pesem (Our song) 2007 and the second place in the 9th international choir competition in Maribor 2008, where the choir also won a special prize for the best Slovenian choir of the competition. In 2008 we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the birth of Slovenian composer Pavle Merkú with a special cycle of concerts. This was the Vocal Artists Bon Voyage concert prior to their Argentine tour and performance at the 9th International World Choral Symposium. "Stars" was commissioned by and dedicated to the Salt Lake Vocal Artists and Brady Allred. This piece calls for tuned glasses and specifically tuned Tibetan Singing bowls.
