This choir is partnered with a non-profit organization called the New Yor...  moreThe Salt and Light Chorale is an SATB choir that sings music from a variety of genres such as: Gospel, Spirituals, Jazz, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Russian Choral Music. This choir is partnered with a non-profit organization called the New York Community Alliance for Sickle Cell Anemia Inc. We plan to use our concert venues for aiding this organization's cause. Our conductor John Hunter II is a young but competent conductor. He received his Master's in Choral Conducting from Mansfield University. Together with the jazz-saxophonist Stefan Kuchel and the Sirius Quartet, the young men's choir performs contemporary works. The Quartet members describe themselves as artists of improvisation who break out of the conventional vocabulary of sound for a string quartet. Most pieces on this CD were written especially for the Sonux Ensemble, and thus composed to the singers' strengths. "We have worked on these pieces together with the composers, and given them their first performances over the course of the last five years. The video is based on a caricature of me as a choirboy. This is an improved version using that video but following the words more clearly and also including the words on screen. The choir sings the 12 days of Christmas but it all goes horribly (or hilariously) wrong.
