The river Shannon is named for the Goddess Sionna, whose myth tells how she sought out the hazelnuts of wisdom, believed to contain éigse, the spirit of inspiration and creativity. Since their inception in 2012, Sionna have been privileged to share the stage with some of the best names in Irish music today.  less

The choral programme stArts with a general education for ages 5-7, before they are ready for Junior Choir (7-10), Intermediate Choir (10-13), Stage Choir or Youth Choir (13-18). Youth Choir contains over 80 singers, and the total number of singers meeting each week at the Academy is over 180. The junior Choirs are directed by Mrs Kate Venvell, Stage Choir is directed by Richard Halton and Julie Gossage, and Youth Choir is directed by Tim Venvell.  less

In October 2012, the Choir was awarded the prestigious title of Choir of the Year 2012, a...  moreLes Sirènes is a Glasgow-based Female chamber Choir consisting of 26 vocalists, all students and graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD). In October 2012, the Choir was awarded the prestigious title of Choir of the Year 2012, after an extensive UK-wide search and a competitive Grand Final held at London's Royal Festival Hall. The ensemble was established in 2007 by present musical director andrew Nunn and performs regularly across Scotland and beyond, having given concerts in renowned venues such as Glasgow Cathedral, the SECC, Dunkeld Cathedral, Paisley Abbey, the Mackintosh Church, the Queen's Hall, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and London’s Cadogan Hall. The Choir has also performed in more obscure locations, having “sung on the subway” as part of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) promotion of the Glasgow underground.
