Due to its diligent and devoted work, with repertoire including pieces by Croatian and other autho...  more“Vox Animae” had been founded in October 2007 as a part of the University of Split (Croatia), and since December 2011 it had been functioning independently. Due to its diligent and devoted work, with repertoire including pieces by Croatian and other authors spanning from the Renaissance to the 21st century, the choir reached high quality of interpretation, soon recognized by audience. After many successful performances in Split and the region, the choir started to participate in various national and international choral competitions, having achieved notable results. Thus, the short but interesting history of the choir includes: - 3rd place at “Croatian Choral Assembly” in 2009 and 2011, and 1st place at this competition in 2010, 2012 and 2013; - two silver certificates at international choral competition “Slovakia Cantat 2010”; - awards won at the competition “Cro Patria” (3rd award of the jury in 2010 and 1st award of the audience in 2012); - two silver medals at World Choir Championships held in Graz in Ju...    less

Currently numbering 18 singers, FCC has a broad repertoire featuring everything from early music and traditional pieces to the works of contemporary composers such as Whitacre, Pärt, Lauridsen and McMillan, and is highly regarded at home and abroad. In 2011, we travelled to Trondheim, Norway, to take part in Sangforening, a major festival featuring hundreds of Norwegian choirs, and were the first ever foreign choir invited to take part. 2012 saw us visit Languedoc, France, where we gave concerts in beautiful old churches in Alzonne and Montréal, near Carcassonne. We are active in radio and television, having featured in many broadcasts of recorded and live services by the Irish national broadcaster RTE, including one recorded in Swords CoI church which was broadcast on Christmas day, 2010 and Easter and Advent services in 2012 and 2013. Commemorating the 70th anniversary of Hugo Distler's death, two successful vocal ensembles from Leipzig perform together on a single CD for the first time. the three- and four-voice motets recorded by the young ladies of the Sjaella sextet and the five yo...  moreCommemorating the 70th anniversary of Hugo Distler's death, two successful vocal ensembles from Leipzig perform together on a single CD for the first time. the three- and four-voice motets recorded by the young ladies of the Sjaella sextet and the five young gentlemen of the Ensemble Nobiles represent some of the highlights from Distler's choral oeuvre: the Jahrkreis op. 5, and the Geistliche Chormusik op. 12. One of the composer's best-known works, the Totentanz op. 12 no. 2, stands at the heart of this disc. the fourteen motets for Eternity Sunday contained in the Totentanz op. 12 no. 2 were set to music by Hugo Distler and form the work's musical part. Distler accompanies the motets with non-musical verses that narrate a dialogue between death and his numerous victims.While on the present recording some of the victims' roles are spoken by the singers themselves, Heinz-Martin Benecke lends death his charismatic voice. the Totentanztopos is known especially through its pictorial representations of death'...    less
