The Choir was started back in January 2007 by Founder Grenville Jones. Grenville stepped down at the end of 2022 as conductor and his son, Laurie Jones, has taken on the leadership role as Musical Director. The ‘Boys from Bath’ are a 60 voice auditioned choir who have entertained audiences across the UK and toured Europe and the world performing in some of the most prestigious concert venues. In 2008 the Choir achieved national acclaim when they reached the finals of a Saturday evening BBC television choir competition ‘Last Choir Standing’. The Choir sing a wide range of music from traditional, pop, gospel, musicals and secular music. The Boys from Bath always strive to make the best sound and guarantee they will entertain and put a smile on their audiences faces as they experience the Wall of Sound (as quoted by celebrity tenor Russell Watson).  less

I wrote “Pour Toi, Mère” (For You, Mother) which premiered at my senior composition recital. A few years later, Kevin Fenton programmed that piece for his choir at FSU. He shared with me his strong connection with the piece at a time when his sister-in-law, Peggy Fenton was also fighting breast cancer. Sadly, Peggy Fenton lost her fight with cancer in 2009. That same year Kevin contacted me and asked if I would write a piece in her memory for her husband and her two daughters. He shared with me a video of a presentation she did at the Mother’s Day banquet at her church, just a few days before her passing. The title of her presentation was “From Hats to Crown”. She shared stories about her life and the many relationship roles one plays: as a daughter, a sister, as a wife, a mother and a teacher. As she talked about each role she wore a different hat. It was an open invitation for men who wanted the informal experience of singing within the ranks of a Welsh Male Vocie Choir and it proved to be a huge success. Several guests turned up for the experience and were treated to the full basics of vocal production and singing within the choir by John Daniel. We have been invited by Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire, UK, to sing as "choir in residence" for a week in July 2014, taking over their choir's duties of singing 8 services that week. We are the only Hawai'i choir to belong to the Royal School of Church Music, and we use their adjudication standards to award medals which are internationally recognized by the RSCM. We sing sacred music in English, Latin, and Hawaiian. We are always looking for new choristers. Auditions are year-around, although placement occurs only in fall semester and spring semester.
