It is a musical search for the meaning of gold, a Choral exploration of our human relationship to this precious metal. In Latin and English. As always, comments are most welcomed. Sincere thanks to Matthew Curtis (Choraltracks.com) for recording "Aurum, aurum!" Email me at rain@magma.ca, if you'd like more info, or to obtain a copy of the score. I would like to acknowledge the a cappella choir that I sing in, The Stairwell Carollers, and our director Pierre Massie, for their musical inspiration these past 26 years. I would also like to thank my friends in our "Ad hoc Chorale" for testing out this piece in one of our informal workshops and offering valuable comments. And with deepest appreciation to my brother Adam Rain and my friend Geneviève Lajoie for their invaluable support throughout my composing journey.  less

Inspired by 6 Music artists, and following in the footsteps of London Contemporary Voices, Deep Throat Choir & House Gospel Choir, our eclectic, left-field repertoire draws from neo-soul, electronic, contemporary folk and experimental pop, realised into emotive 8-part harmony by musician / director Isolde Lachlan.  less

The world is big, so big, so very big! To you, it's new, it's new to you! You're my little potato, you're my little potato, You're my little potato, they dug you up, You come from underground! Let's talk about root crops (they dug you up), And lamb chops (they chew on you), And things to eat...like apples and cheese and 'nanas and cream, Jellies and butter, it's late at night, I hope this little bottle helps you go to sleep! They must have grown you wild, you make a grown man a child, I'll go and play in the mud to be with you my spud (potato). He decided to call this one-man choir the dwsChorale. The range is bottom bass D to top alto e. Most recordings were done between 2005 and 2009. Only time will tell whether the dwsChorale will be revived, but David keeps composing anyway, so who knows....

Our repertoire is all original, written by choir members and has emerged as a new tribal Choral tradition that honors death as a natural, expected, sometimes very inspiring event in a life. While we don't require auditions, our welcome process is rigorous. This kind of singing is spiritual work and is deeply rewarding for those who are called to it.
