Paul Caruana in 1974 as a...  moreThe Jubilate Deo choir is the resident choir at the parish church of Naxxar (Malta) and is mainly responsible to animate the liturgy of the principal feasts of the Catholic Church celebrated in this parish. It was founded by Rev. Paul Caruana in 1974 as a girls’ choir and sang for the first time at Christmas that same year. In the following months male voices were added and the enlarged choir sang for the first time in the Good Friday celebrations of 1975. Eventually adult female voices joined in, establishing an SATB choir. The first big occasion for the choir came in 1980, performing works by the compatriot prolific composer of sacred music Joseph Fenech (1917-2010). The Jubilate Deo choir has since performed at the Teatru Manoel on many occasions, took part in the BBC production “Songs of Praise” that was televised worldwide and in 1990 sang during the visit to Malta of Pope John Paul II. The group named DEKOR Chamber choir is composed of experienced choral singers from various parts of Slovenia, who in the past used to sing in renowned Slovene and some foreign vocal ensembles. Driven by the desire of thorough preparation of quality choral projects, the choir works under the leadership of Slovene and foreign guest conductors. The choir prepared their inaugural concert, entitled In the Beginning, in cooperation with young Finnish conductor Dani Juris The topic of creation coincided not only with the central composition of the concert, Copland’s In the Beginning, but also with the choir’s first public appearance and presentation of the concept of their work. Journeys around the world followed - "Ugnele" has presented Lithuanian culture in fifteen countries from the Netherlands to South Korea; in 2004, the choir started a national choral festival for children, "Dainu mozaika". In 1985 the choir became an Oakham House society open to Ryerson students, faculty and...  moreThe choir was founded in 1984 as a result of the efforts of Marie Dowler of Ryerson's English department and became a success under the direction of Matthew Jaskiewicz. In 1985 the choir became an Oakham House society open to Ryerson students, faculty and staff. In 1987 membership was opened to the general public. The choir is currently made up of Ryerson undergraduates and alumni, current and retired faculty members and people from all ages and walks of life in the community. It ranges in size from 60-80 members. A core of long term members makes it possible to maintain high standards and perform a demanding repertoire. Under Matthew's direction, the choir has performed over 50 concerts and on several occasions performed at Ryerson graduation ceremonies. In 1986 the choir competed in three categories at the Kiwanis Festival, winning first place in two categories and receiving high marks in all three. In December 2009, the ensemble became ‘academic’. From February 2011 the official name “Khreschatyk” Academic Chamber choir. Honoured Art Worker of Ukraine Larisa Bukhonskaya was the choir founder and its Artistic Director until 2007. Since August 2007, after winning a representative contest, Pavel Struts, previously a long-standing Coryphaeus, became the choir’s Artistic Director. The honorary title of Distinguished Artist of Ukraine was awarded to Pavel Struts in December 2009.  less
