The programme of inspirational compositions by Beethoven,...  moreOn 21 March at 7.30pm Kingston Choral Society presents a stirring performance of Music by four iconic nineteenth century German composers in the magnificent setting of All Saints Church, Kingston. The programme of inspirational compositions by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Schumann is a perfect prelude to spring and encompasses the Romantic themes of dream, destiny, heroism, and pantheism. Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny) contrasts heavenly bliss with the sorrows of the human condition, while Schumann’s Nachtlied evokes the serene world of sleep. Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture portrays the fall of a once all-conquering hero and Mendelssohn’s Die Erste Walpurgisnacht is a dramatic Musical rendition of the clash between nature-worshipping Druidic tradition and new belief in a God disembodied from the natural world.
