The Sierra Boys choir is the new revival of the Sierra Boys choir in the 1970s, which was active in the Reno/Sparks/Carson City area and directed by Stan Burke. When Mr. Burke joined the Mario Singers and left to move to Long Beach, CA, the choir was disbanded and a hole was left in the local arts and culture scene. The revival of the choir is a project (and passion) of Nathan Lundholm. Our goal is to provide musical and artistic opportunities to the boys while teaching them to be generous and thankful members of the local and global community. Our aim is to be fun and entertaining on many levels, from practices to shows, even to social events on the town. We put all volunteers through a background check, and we ask some degree of participation from parents. The Sierra Boys choir is a 501c3 non-profit corp. As a part of the historic community of Worcester Cathedral, the choir has gained a reputation for musical sensitivity and ground breaking performance. The choir was founded in 1998 by its musical director, Stephen Shellard, in order to draw together a group of high quality singers from the local area to develop a concert repertoire and further enrich the choral tradition of Worcester Cathedral. The establishment of the choir made history as, for the first time since its foundation nearly 1000 years ago, Worcester Cathedral included women's voices as a part of its musical life.  less

All of them are former members of the “Dresdner Kreuzchor” (choir of the Church of the Holy Cross Dresden) or the “Thomanerchor Leipzig” (St. Thomas choir Leipzig), two of the most famous boy's choirs in Germany. The singers have set themselves the target to present their listeners a wide musical spectrum. Their repertoire consists of vocal music from Renaissance and Baroque to Romanticism to the 20th and 21st century. Important elements are works of Jacobus Gallus, Michael Praetorius, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Francis Poulenc and Rudolf Mauersberger. In addition they also perform with popular music. Music of the “Comedian Harmonists”, “The Beatles”, Billy Joel or the German group “Wise Guys” are also an essential part of their repertoire.
