It was first created by a few friends in 1991, then enlarged over the years. It has been conducted by Stephan Nicolay since 2004. The choir aims to share quality music and new experiences with the audience. That is why La Sestina often performs with crossover arts on a main theme e.g. French Renaissance chansons in 16th century clothes with an actress, a cappella sacred contemporary music with dancers and video projection, Baroque French music with Chamber orchestra and a lecturer, medieval Spanish music with mediterranean ensemble of lutes and percussions, etc. Also, the choir aims at supporting humanitarian and social actions by offering one or several concerts each year. Many international NGO have benefited from these charity concerts such as Unicef, Unesco, Amnesty International, Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières and so on, but also very local associations. Together these w...  moreIn English- Chamber Choir Cantinovum (established in 1989) is the youthful and ambitious choir of the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (JAMK) directed by Rita Varonen. Their name originates from the Latin words canti and novum. Together these words become the identity of the choir and mean 'new song'. At present, there are approximately 30 Singers in the choir for whom music is a passionate interest – for many it is also a future profession. Many of the Singers, either study or work at the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences or the University of Jyväskylä. The repertoire of Cantinovum is colorful and varied. It spans from folk music to sacred music and from Renaissance to modern composers. It is very characteristic of Cantinovum to perform songs that have been specially composed for them. They have had the honour of premiering more than a dozen compositions both nationally and internationally. The CD is expertly conducted by the choir's musical director, James Sherlock and guest instrumentalists are 17-year old Edward Picton-Turbevill on the organ and award-winning young cellist James Barralet playing the solo part in Sir John Tavener's 'Svyati' for cello and choir. The enthusiastic group of Singers from Lucerne and its surroundings is lead by young conductor Andreas Felber. molto cantabile was soon recognised by the Swiss audience thanks to their success at various competitions. In 2005 the ensemble won the audience award as well as the special award of the jury of the Swiss Choir Competition in Glarus, while in 2007 it was awarded the 1st place at the Valiant Forum for Young Orchestras and Choirs at the Murten Classic Summer Festival. In addition, molto cantabile has taken part in several renowned international choir competitions where it has proved to belong to the leaders of the international choir scene. In May 2004 the ensemble took part in the European Music Festival in Neerpelt, Belgium, where it was awarded 1st prize summa cum laude with 99/100 points. They were under the tu...  moreEast Rand Male Symphony was established in August 1990 by the members of the then Kenneth Masekela SSS Boys Choir after winning the TUATA National School Choir Competition in the category of Boys Choirs for the 4th successive year. They were under the tutelage of Mojalefa Motloung. The choir is made up of members from the East Rand which is now affectionately known as Ekurhuleni. The young men who established the choir in 1990 are now responsible men taking their place in their communities. We currently have over 35 members of which ages range from 20 to 50. We are still under the baton of Mojalefa Motloung who also forms part of our Conductors Forum.  less

As a nationally selected choir of the highest calibre, Voices is a Chamber choir that is flexible in size, and capable of performing a wide repertoire. Many of the Singers are alumni of the New Zealand Youth Choir.
