With a great sense of fun and a unique style of entertainment, the chorus has gripped audiences during its history of 34 years. Our close knit membership of nearly sixty guys has a strong commitment to vocal and performance excellence. Cottontown particularly enjoy competing in both national and international barbershop competitions. Well respected stages around the UK including the London Palladium have given us the opportunity to wow audiences with stirring harmonies, emotional lyrics, exciting choreography and visual effects. In competition, the Bolton based group has succeeded in winning the much sought after Gold Medal at the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) convention four times in the last six years and represented the UK twice at the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) International Convention held in the USA. One could trace back choral singing at St. Benedict’s to the early years of the 20th.Century when La Sallian Christian brother expatriates from Europe inculcated in the local staff and student bodies , an appreciation of choral singing. They brought to our school the rich traditions of classical music that prevailed in Europe, at the time. By and by , they were ably assisted by highly interested and committed lay trainers cum teachers who went on to train prize winning Choirs that stood out among schools and also were in great demand for national events. The history of the Benedictine Choirs would not be complete without reference to the great English musician Rev.Bro. Hugh Farrington , ably assisted by Bonnie Fonseka. They established the reputation of Benedictine Choirs. They wanted to show how two seemingly different cultures can fuse together to produce something great. This vision has grown into Chai-Town A Cappella. Last year we performed at the a cappella competition Anahat, in Berkeley, CA, as a guest act at the dance competition Naach Nation, in New York, NY, and across the Midwest. As 2012 approaches, our group will be reaching its 10th anniversary and putting out our THIRD studio album! Chai-Town is a completely student-run, non-profit group of 16 members, each of whom has a passion for music. Oktet Suha has released 12 CD ́s since and is the main organizer of the annual cross boarder vocal Festival Suha.
