We accomplish our mission by combining the power of Women's experience with musical expression in the following ways: 1) each season we commission one new piece for Women's voices from a female composer; 2) each season, we research, uncover and perform a work for Women's voices by a female composer who has been overlooked in music history; 3) we provide an annual scholarship to one girl to sing with the Phoenix Girl's Chorus and 4) each season, we perform two annual concerts and a variety of local performances in our communities and schools.  less

Our repertoire spans all musical genres, from barbershop standards to jazz and Broadway musical standards through to Pop and Rock music from the likes of Queen, Michael Jackson and The Eurythmics. Whether you're looking for a place to sing with others, or searching for a dynamic Chorus or quartet to perform at your next show or corporate event, GAC are the group for you. We are made up of around 60 women from all over Auckland, from a diverse range of backgrounds, ages and occupations who come together to share a love of singing and performing. The style of singing is more 'pop' than classical and the choice of music reflects this, with the repertoire including show-tunes, popular songs from the 1930s to today, as well as classic barbershop arrangements. There are strong links to musical theatre in that most songs are choreographed, and performing skills are a key element in making a song work. We rehearse every Tuesday, 6:30pm-9:00pm, in central London between Kings Cross and St Paul's. The group performs repertoire that expresses a uniquely feminine spirit, especially works that promote the best interests of women in society. Vox Grata sings concert programs that directly benefit the needs of women in the Nashville community. The singers also enjoy the opportunity to mentor exceptional high school and college-aged women who participate in the choir as part of its choral scholar program.  less

We have about 25 members currently, but we are gaining new members each year. We put on two "shows" each year to raise funds that benefit the Chorus as a whole. We also perform throughout the year at various venues - retirement communities, nursing homes, churches, banquets, and other events.
