The choir regularly takes part in ...  moreThe Mixed choir Concordia discors has been active for four years now, and is some one hundred members strong, most of them from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, the rest from Zagreb University. The choir regularly takes part in local, national and international festivals and competitions.  

Vocal Vibes is an ensemble of around 40 singers based in Ringwood, Victoria. We are committed to building community through excellence in a cappella harmony, and we love to learn. We are committed to building community through excellence in a cappella harmony, and we love to learn. We rehearse weekly to improve our vocal skills and build lasting friendships in the process. Although we have diverse backgrounds, our members thrive by working together to achieve shared goals. We sing a range of repertoire from jazz standards to 21st-century pop, barbershop to show tunes, but most importantly we sing a cappella. As well as entertaining audiences across the eastern suburbs of Melbourne we compete regularly in barbershop harmony competitions at a national level. Under the direction of its founder, artistic director and conductor Silvester Hajnal, the Choir managed to attain great reputation in the country and abroad in a short period of time. The Choir’s repertoire includes the works of both Yugoslav and foreign composers, from early renaissance to contemporary authors. Winner of the first prize in Warsaw International Choir Festival 2007. Our repertoire contains International music, but especially Arabic songs from different heritages (Lebanese, Palestinian, Egyptian, Iraqi, Syrian, Mouashah...). And for the first time, we have Arabic songs arranged with quarter tones. Our aim is to show the real civilized image of the Arab world and to spread our rich Music.

Bishop Road Community Choir is open to all in the local community. We are a Mixed, non-audition choir. All songs are taught by ear and we don’t expect anyone to learn the words off by heart. However, music can be made available for those who want it. W...  moreBishop Road Community Choir is open to all in the local community. We are a Mixed, non-audition choir. All songs are taught by ear and we don’t expect anyone to learn the words off by heart. However, music can be made available for those who want it. We sing a range of different songs, including pop, gospel, world music and classical. We mainly sing songs with piano accompaniment, provided by our famous pianist, Geoff. We hold our own annual concert, and we are often invited to sing at other local events such as the local MayFest. Our members come along for “enjoyment, friendship and satisfaction as well as singing with a group of like-minded people”. Singing is reputed to release endorphins in the brain, and we’ve certainly noticed amongst us a sense of well-being following rehearsals and in particular, concerts. We are a very sociable bunch and often meet for a drink at the Chimp House on Gloucester Road following our rehearsal on Thursday evenings. Hoffman. www.stanleymhoffman.com All rights reserved. The poem above is sometimes called “I Am” due to its repetition of the phrase. Was the poem inspired? The Hebrew name for God, YHWH, means “I am” or “I am that I am.” And there does seem to be something magical about the poem, as it was written by a woman who, to our knowledge, had never written a poem before. Mary Elizabeth Frye was an orphan with no formal education. In 1932 she and her husband hosted a young Jewish woman, Margaret Schwarzkopf, who was fleeing the Holocaust. When she received news that her mother had died in Germany, the heartbroken houseguest told Frye in despair that she had never had the chance to “stand by my mother’s grave and shed a tear.” Frye found herself composing the poem above on a ripped-off section of a brown paper shopping bag. She said the words “just came to her.”  less
