Bishop Road Community Choir is open to all in The local community. We are a mixed, non-audition choir. All songs are taught by ear and we don’t expect anyone to learn The words off by heart. However, music can be made available for those who want it. W...  moreBishop Road Community Choir is open to all in The local community. We are a mixed, non-audition choir. All songs are taught by ear and we don’t expect anyone to learn The words off by heart. However, music can be made available for those who want it. We sing a range of different songs, including pop, gospel, world music and classical. We mainly sing songs with piano accompaniment, provided by our famous pianist, Geoff. We hold our own annual concert, and we are often invited to sing at oTher local events such as The local MayFest. Our members come along for “enjoyment, friendship and satisfaction as well as singing with a group of like-minded people”. Singing is reputed to release endorphins in The brain, and we’ve certainly noticed amongst us a sense of well-being following rehearsals and in particular, concerts. We are a very sociable bunch and often meet for a drink at The Chimp House on Gloucester Road following our rehearsal on Thursday evenings. We are located in Oslo an has a very broad repertoar from medieval to contemporary music. We sing in many languages and in many genres; classical, church music, romantic songs, folk music, jazz; with our main focus in classical music. We have been singing for 15 years and held concerts in several European capitals. Taking our singing seriously, we are a very social singers who likes to perform with oTher choirs or musicians.

In August 2009, Mikko Sidoroff started his work as The choir’s conductor. The choir’s repertoire mainly consists of a wide variety of a cappella songs. The choir can be found performing in Turku as well as oTher cities many times throughout The year. Traditionally, There is a quartet concert in January, a spring concert right after May Day (Vappu) and an advent concert in December. The TYY Choir has participated in many venues outside of Turku. The choir represented Finland in The international choir competition in Coleraine, Ireland in 2006. The competition could not have gone any better as The choir won in The category of mixed choir and was given The award as best choir.
