Cold may lie the day,
And bare of grace;
At night I slip away
To the Singing Place.
A border of mist and doubt
Before the gate,
And the Dancing Stars grow still
As hushed I wait.
Then faint and far away
I catch the beat
In broken rhythm and rhyme
Of joyous feet,—
Lifting waves of sound
That will rise and swell
(If the prying eyes of thought
Break not the spell),
Rise and swell and retreat
And fall and flee,
As over the edge of sleep
They beckon me.
And I wait as the seaweed waits
For the lifting tide;
To ask would be to awake,—
To be denied.

Below the gardens and the darkening pines
The living water sinks among the stones,
Sinking yet foaming till the snowy tones
Merge with the fog drawn landward in dim lines.
The cloud dissolves among the flowering vines,
And now the definite mountain-side disowns
The fluid world, the immeasurable zones.
Then white oblivion swallows all designs.
But still the rich confusion of the sea,
Unceasing voice, sombre and solacing,
Rises through veils of silence past the trees;
In restless repetition bound, yet free,
Wave after wave in deluge fresh releasing
An ancient speech, hushed in tremendous ease. less

The Shir E-l (Song of G-d) Choir is the performing choir of The Center for Choral Singing in the Kedumim School of Music in Israel. The choir was established in 1996 (originally in the Lehava High School for Girls) by singer/Choral conductor Nomi Teplow w... moreThe Shir E-l (Song of G-d) Choir is the performing choir of The Center for Choral Singing in the Kedumim School of Music in Israel. The choir was established in 1996 (originally in the Lehava High School for Girls) by singer/Choral conductor Nomi Teplow with the goal of bringing together girls with musical ability to work on a highly professional level and produce a wide variety of vocal music. The choir is comprised of 25-30 girls from areas throughout Samaria ranging in age from 13-18 years.
The Shir-El choir performs in concerts and at vocal conventions across the country bringing fine singing, rich harmonies and words of hope, faith and love of Israel to a broad range of audiences. The Shir E-l Choir has won first place several times in the national Choral competition for high school choirs sponsored by the Israel Ministry of Education.
