Founded in 1989 by Mr. Albert Morland to provide an opportunity for ex-members of the Wonderboom High School Choir to continue singing together after matriculating, it has since evolved to include members from a broader community that come from various backgrounds and professions (including law, accounting, nursing, teaching and IT) and are between 18 and 65 years of age. The Choir has toured and performed across South Africa during the past 30 years and has an established reputation as a warm, friendly and “no-fuss” group with good choral sound who are just as comfortable performing at nursing homes and other charitable events as they are performing alongside the best Choirs in the world on International stages, for instance, at the 10th World Choir Games in 2018, where they took home a silver medal (79.5%) in the champion’s category for mixed adult Choirs. It also aims to provide an opportunity for passionate singers to discover the voice as a singing instrument, develop high-level musical skills related to choral singing, influence choral music appreciation, develop cultural awareness, use choral music as a tool for change in building a better community, and finally, to represent Eastern Visayas in both local and international choral scenes. We Annually we perform two large concerts with professional soloists and orchestral musicians in Carlow, ‘Glory of Christmas’ in the National Concert Hall and annual ‘Christmas Crackers’ family concert in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre, Carlow. The Choir, which has a membership of around 30 voices, was formed in 2007 by its Musical Director, Sheila Farmer. A Cappella is a touring Choir, having visited Prague and France, and hoping to make a tour to Spain in the near future. The Choir rehearses every other Saturday morning, between 10 a.m. and noon.
