Recorded live on December 14, 2014, at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by the Chamber Singers ensemble of the Girl Choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson, Percussion: Bradley Peterson. This indigenous community, often referred to as The Colorados, is located in the northern coastal region of Ecuador. In the face of modernization, music serves as a tool for this group to preserve their history, traditions, and culture. Tsáchilas music-making includes dance, philosophy, spirituality, cultural traditions, and community involvement with a strong connection to nature and respect for the land. By singing this piece, our ensemble is actively helping to protect and promote the Tsáchila community. A portion of the proceeds from our purchase of the score has been sent to the community to assist in the preservation of their culture. TRANSLATION Beautiful woma...    less

Recorded live on May 13, 2011, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by the Apprentice Choir ensemble of the Girl Choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson, Accompanist: Susan Dodd. This piece was first debuted by the Girl Choir of South Florida as part of the festival chorus at the Keynote Arts Festival in June 2006. From breakfast on through all the day At home among my friends I stay, But every night I go abroad Afar into the land of Nod. All by myself I have to go, With none to tell me what to do — All alone beside the streams And up the mountain-sides of dreams. The strangest things are there for me, Both things to eat and things to see, And many frightening sights abroad Till morning in the land of Nod. Try as I like to find the way, I never can get back by day, Nor can remember plain and clear The curious music that I hear.  less

Recorded live on December 14, 2014, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by the Apprentice Choir ensemble of the Girl Choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Robert Todd, Accompanist: Gayle Giese. Let us walk in the white snow In a soundless space; With footsteps quiet and slow, At a tranquil pace, Under veils of white lace. I shall go shod in silk, And you in wool, White as white cow's milk, More beautiful Than the breast of a gull. We shall walk through the still town In a windless peace; We shall step upon white down, Upon silver fleece, Upon softer than these. We shall walk in velvet shoes: Wherever we go Silence will fall like dews On white silence below. We shall walk in the snow.  less
