It is made up of James Rose (Founder), Sam Robson, Emily Dankworth, Ben Cox, Martynas Vilpisauskas and Lewis Daniel, all young and talented musicians from tHe Guildhall School of Music. Performing live on stage around London with guest singers such as Jacqui Dankworth, VIVE brings rich, diverse harmonies with a fresh, contemporary sound, taking inspiration from tHe legendary Take 6 and tHe Real Group! THeir music is mainly original arrangements and compositions and what's more, tHe focal point is not just pop, fusion, harmony, jazz, spirituals... but a complete syntHesis of all of tHese. Its activities soon expanded and now include a regular concert programme, weddings and services throughout Staffordshire and tHe West Midlands, and guest appearances at otHer catHedrals. THe Choir has a versatile repertoire of sacred and secular music ranging from tHe Renaissance to tHe contemporary, and it enjoys tHe challenge of new and experimental writing. PROGRAM NOTES: “I breatHed a song into tHe air, it fell to earth I knew not wHere.” Ten years ago, I wrote a composition called always Keep This close with little idea of wHere it would go or what it would come to mean for otHers. to find that song living in tHe Hearts of otHer musicians is both humbling and surprising. For me, it’s a reminder of how powerful our actions and words can be. Something that feels insignificant to one person can be life-changing to anotHer. While creating THe Heart of a Friend, I knew from tHe start that I wanted to shape a melodic arc that captured tHe trajectory of both tHe arrow and tHe song. I felt strongly that tHe first two stanzas needed to end at a high point, preserving tHe uncertainty of wHere each might land. Only in tHe third stanza does tHe melody turn downward, revealing tHe rest of its path. THe choir sings in tHe Ukrainian and old-church slavonic languages. For decades, tHe choir strived to keep Ukrainian (liturgical and worldly) culture alive. It did so whilst tHe Greek-catholic Church fought to survive its suppressors. It continues to do so, joining in tHe happiness of tHe Greek-catholics' freedom today. THe choir was founded by Ukrainian born and raised musicologist Myroslaw Antonowycz (+2006). At present, tHe Utrecht Byzantine Choir is directed by Grigori Sergei Sarolea. We aim to give two/three concerts a year – we hope you can be in tHe next one! We are a group of ladies with ages ranging from early 20s to 50s. We usually run around tHe school holidays as we have a few mums but can run in tHe holidays as well if enough people are available. We charge per half term which works out at £5.50 a week wHen you commit to tHe whole half term.
