Sung by the Fulham Children's Choir, Musical director: Christopher Wray, Piano: Marcus Andrews and Charles Economou Songs and Cries of London Town by Bob Chilcott and varied Choral cantata in five movements for STAB choir, upper-voice choir, piano duet, ...  moreSung by the Fulham Children's Choir, Musical director: Christopher Wray, Piano: Marcus Andrews and Charles Economou Songs and Cries of London Town by Bob Chilcott and varied Choral cantata in five movements for STAB choir, upper-voice choir, piano duet, and optional percussion. The two outer movements draw their words and inspiration from boisterous cries of 17th century market vendors as once featured in 'The Cries of London' by Orlando Gibbbons. The second movement features the words of a Scottish poet, William Dunbar (c. 1460-c.1520), in which he praises the English capital, and includes the line 'London, thou art the flower of cities all'. Together, these settings evoke a surprisingly contemporary impression of London's sights, sounds, and moods, inspiring some irresistible music, by turns contemplative and unquenchably thrilling. This 'capital' cantata was written in 2001 for the Diamond Jubilee of the Barnet Choral Society, of which Chilcott is President.  less

Founded in 1970 by a group of enthusiastic amateur singers, our repertoire ranges from the great classical Choral works to modern ...  moreFrodsham & District Choral Society is a thriving, friendly, non-auditioned mixed voice choir of 90 singers of all ages. Founded in 1970 by a group of enthusiastic amateur singers, our repertoire ranges from the great classical Choral works to modern contemporary pieces. Under the skilled direction of Howard Kane, who was appointed Musical director in 2008, and ably assisted by Robert Woods the choir has grown in size and reputation. Rehearsals Monday nights are rehearsal nights which are held in Frodsham Methodist Church, Kingsley Rd, WA6 6BA from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. New members are welcome to come along and give us a try. We rehearse from September through to July for our four main concerts, which are held in Frodsham, and also take our music to other venues in the area. Groups of singers from within the choir are available to sing at weddings and the choir regularly puts on events to raise money for local charities.  less
